Left Unity is losing the plot on Woolwich killings:

Sophie Katz defending the notion of a “clash of civilisations” plays into the hands of the English Defense League, British National Party and UKIP on the one hand and Al Qaeda on the other. Left Unity needs to spurn this idea one hundred percent.

Also, it is not very clear what Sophie is proposing. However, it looks to me like she is sympathetic to the killers at Woolwich. This cannot be the attitude of Left Unity.

All decent Muslims are being forced to condemn this senseless killing because they are scared to do anything else, given the lies of the mass media. Salma Yaqoob, for instance, should not need to condemn it anymore than I, as a so-called Christian, need to prove I don’t support Anders Breivik’s massacre. But Muslims are scared because of a lynch-mob atmosphere whipped up by an Islamophobic mass media.

Left Unity have to stand shoulder to shoulder with Muslims who condemn this atrocity as much as non-Muslims do. What distinguishes us from David Cameron and Theresa May is that we can condemn the Woolwich killers’ senseless bloodshed while simultaneously condemning NATO cowards who use drones that kill Muslim women and children as well as male civilians. Left Unity also condemns the atrocity that is Guantanamo.

The Woolwich killers have clearly been driven insane. There is no question that they need to be locked up for the safety of all of us, as well as their own safey. But it was NATO’s crimes against Muslims that have helped drive them beyond the edge of criminal insanity. That is what Left Unity has to expose.

Just when I thought that Left Unity’s leadership could not get any worse on Woolwich, this happens. To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, “The only thing worse than Left Unity not putting out a statement about Woolwich is Left Unity putting out a statement about Woolwich.”

If anyone is interested, here is the article on the Woolwich atrocity that I submitted to Left Unity’s website, which was rejected: https://derekthomas2010.wordpress.com/2013/05/23/left-unity-against-woolwich-attrocity-and-islamophobia/
