“Charlie Hebdo killers murdered innocent people with the intention of dying themselves so God could reward them? Sounds like a plan.”
It is a plan of someone who has lost their mind. This is not a sane plan. This is the very definition of insanity.
Almost no commentary on BBC, SKY, Channel4 News or ITV has contributed to a genuine debate. It has been distraction, and a deliberate detraction at that, by those who want Britain’s general election in May to be limited to craven apologists of MI5, Special Branch, the CIA, FBI, Mossad, NSA, GCHQ.
Ed Miliband, David Cameron, Nick Clegg, Nigel Farage are the Four Buttocks of the Apocalypse. They offer us nothing. And their champions at BBC, SKY, Channel4 News and ITV are the Four Megaphones of the Four Buttocks of the Apocalypse. And the pathetic coverage of the Charlie Hebdo atrocity is the latest sign of just how degraded Britain’s so-called free press and broadcast equivalent are.
One of the rare exceptions to the Islamophobic nonsense was Will Self’s critique on Channel4 News last night. For daring to expose Cathy Newman and Matt Frei’s garbage, he became the target of abuse on Twitter. Badge of honour.
There was one thing Will Self said that I would quibble with. This is not a big thing, and if he wants to tell me I’m talking nonsense, I’m happy to listen, and could well change my mind. Are the Charlie Hebdo killers ‘evil’?
As I explained on Twitter, I don’t think ‘evil’ is a good word to describe these killers, although I am not complaining when others use it as shorthand for something else. I prefer to call them criminally insane. What is the difference?
I think we need to accept that anyone who behaves as these killers behaved are insane. What they are doing cannot make their own lives better in any way. Their goal is one that makes no rational sense. They may be able to plan how to implement a plan that makes their own lives worse, but that’s not a great definition of sanity. Not in my opinion.
Qualifying their insanity as ‘criminal’ is important as it means we are not wishy washy liberals who turn our back on the mentally ill. Not only are they are threat to themselves; they are to others. Their threat is such that, as they have no intention of being taken alive, they have to be put out of their misery. It would be good to bring them to trial, if for no other reason that to find out which parts of the French state was involved over the years. But that’s one reason they will see to it that they never get a fair trial which would expose what the state has been up to behind the scenes.
Given the level of danger they posed to innocent people, they had to be taken down, and they would never be taken alive. Evading capture was simply in order to maximize the numbers of innocent people they could kill before they too met their ‘maker’, if he exists, and then to discover he/she is not into killing innocent people after all.
My problem with calling these killers ‘evil’ is it begs the question of nature or nurture. Do we really want to go there? I do not believe anyone is born evil. If these people are criminally insane, then I think society needs to ask what made them that way. And that is precisely the question Matt Frei, Cathy Newman, Krishnan Guru-Murthy refuses to even ask. Here is a list: drones, Guantanamo, torture, Palestine, CIA and NSA crimes, illegal wars in Iraq, detention without trial for months, entrapment by undercover cops, Islamophobia at an officially sanctioned level in all the NATO countries. This does not excuse criminal insanity. It does, however, explain it as an inevitable symptom of a much more serious disease. And that is the last thing these Channel Four News editor will let you consider. What goes for Channel4 News editor, goes for editors at BBC, SKY, ITV. And Ofcom too.
